Syria Through a Woman's Eyes: For Sama


On Monday 2nd, 2020, Lumiere, Amnesty International Maastricht Students, Feminists of Maastricht, AIESEC in the Netherlands, UNSA Maastricht, UNICEF Student team Maastricht and Refugee Project Maastricht volunnteers


Before the movie, a panel of speakers shared personal stories on what it was like to grow up surrounded by conflict. The panel also discussed the current situation in Syria and how it is affecting those internally displaced the most. The movie itself explores the life of Waad al-Kateab’s life through five years of the uprising in Aleppo, Syria as she falls in love, gets married and gives birth to Sama, all while a raging war surrounds her. Revisiting her experiences of loss, and survival as Waad struggles with protecting her daughter.
