International Day of Families

On Friday the 15th of May 2020, we celebrate 'International Day of Families' along the theme of “Families in Development: Copenhagen & Beijing + 25”.

In 1993, the General Assembly decided that 15 May of every year should be observed as The International Day of Families. This UN International day provides our community with the opportunity to promote awareness of social, economic and demographic issues surrounding families worldwide.

In 2020, we are celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Copenhagen Declaration and the Beijing Platform for Action, which has come at a time during one of the most challenging global health and social crises. The COVID-19 pandemic brings the importance of investing in social policies and protecting the most vulnerable individuals and families into sharp focus. Families bear the impact of the crisis, sheltering their communities, caring for out-of-school children and continue their work responsibilities.

Our world is struggling to respond to the COVID-19 crisis, yet we also see a very real opportunity to transform our economies and societies systems to foster greater equality for all. Greater equality cannot be achieved without greater equality in families. Therefore, the Beijing Platform for Action continues to provide a visionary roadmap of where we need to go.

Help support your family, your friends, your community and your world during these challenging times.
