This Tuesday, we hosted a debate night with Refugee Project Maastricht based around the documentary '4.1' miles. This documentary featured how refugees on their way to Europe have to cross 4.1 miles to get to the island of Lesbos off the Greek coast. The hardships endured by the refugees and the efforts undertaken by the Greeks to assist however they can is candidly shown.
After the documentary, people were asked to respond to a prompt on a large paper that was shared with their table. The prompt helped guide the open discussion, and asked: how did the movie make you feel? The discussion ranged from personal feelings to broader political discussion. Once the discussion ceased, we had the pleasure of introducing Bela Hackenberg! A FASOS student who volunteered at a refugee camp in Lesbos, who gladly shared some insights on the situation and experiences while volunteering there.
Again we would like to sincerely thank Refugee Project Maastricht for helping us put this together, and Bela for sharing his experiences!
