Recent conflict in South Sudan has brought about the recruitment of child soldiers. Regional conflict already has major impacts on children and their families, but hiring kids to participate in these conflicts corrupts these future generations. UNICEF estimates that around 9,000 children are engaged in the ongoing conflict in South Sudan; despite thousands being freed all throughout this year, many are still joining.
The children that were freed earlier this year were provided with social workers and education specialists, along with a reintegration package that provided them with basic necessities like clothes and shoes. UNICEF estimates that tens of thousands of children participate in armed conflicts world wide, whether they were forced into it or they volunteered due to economic or social pressures.
